Mike’s Falconry Supplies is always happy to work with both veteran falconers and newcomers alike. If you have little or no experience in falconry, there are a few things you can do to get started. Although falconry can seem daunting for those who are new to the art, taking your first steps into this exciting world is easier than you may think.
- The first thing you should do is to research the history of the art, what it entails, and the tools and supplies you will need. We offer several books designed to help beginners get involved without overloading them with too much information at once. In fact we have books designed for just about every type of falconer, whether you have been practicing the art for years or you have no experience. These books are a terrific way to gain an overall idea about what falconry is and how you can begin practicing the art.

- Hawking & Falconry For Beginners
- The Apprentice Study Guide
- The Apprentice Manual
- Once you have done your research and are ready to become a falconer, your next step will be to earn your falconer permit. Although the regulations vary by state, in most places you must earn a license before you can practice falconry. There are three different levels available, apprentice, general and master falconer. However, if you have little experience you will be starting as an Apprentice.
- As a beginning Apprentice, you will need to seek an apprenticeship from a general or master falconer. There are several organizations including the North American Falconers Association or your local Fish & Wildlife service that can help you get in touch with a falconer if you don’t personally know any. Over the course of your apprenticeship, you will learn advanced techniques, gain experience, and take your first steps towards becoming an apprentice falconer. Most apprenticeships last at least two years. Buy an apprentice kit to get started on your journey
